During a typical day, a class participates in three activities, each lasting approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour:
A lesson introducing the students to fermentation.
A guided tour of the market, including meetings with farmers…
A tasting of fermented products, allowing them to discover everything from natto to fermented vegetables!

The Youth week always takes place during the week following its associated Ferment Fest festival.
The Ferment Fest Montreal Youth week will be held from September 14 to 18, 2026.
The Ferment Fest Quebec youth week will be held from September 21 to 23, 2026.

Each Youth week takes place as part of a Ferment Fest festival and is held at the same location. This year:
The Ferment Fest Montreal Festival will be held at Jean-Talon Market.
The Ferment Fest Quebec City Festival will be held at the Grand Marché de Québec.
So will their respective Youth week!
Ferment Fest is proud to dedicate part of its programming to youth.
Each year, more than 20 classes, representing close to 500 students, are hosted to take part in an immersive experience combining discovery, tasting, and learning around fermentation…
For the past three years, these activities were held at Marché Jean-Talon during the Montreal edition of the Ferment Fest.
In 2026, they will be held for the first time in Quebec city’s Grand Marché during Ferment Fest QC’s first edition!
The Youth week allows the youth to discover local producers while introducing them to the fascinating world of fermentation and helping them explore new flavors.
It is a true source of pride for the festival to spark curiosity about living cultures among young people and to help nurture a new generation that is engaged, aware, and connected to their food.
